Addressing an event in Haldwani on International Girl Child Day, Bhagat, using the Hindi word “patao”, said, “One has to bow to Goddess Saraswati for education, Goddess Durga for power and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth”.

BJP MLA Bansidhar Bhagat on Thursday apologized for his recent remarks on Hindu gods and goddesses, saying he takes them back if he has hurt anyone’s sentiments. However, he said that his intentions were not wrong and by using the word Patao he meant only to persuade the gods and goddesses for their blessings. “My intentions were pure. I just meant to celebrate the gods and goddesses for their blessings. Still, if my words hurt anyone, I take them back,” Bhagat told reporters.

Addressing a program in Haldwani on the International Girl Child Day on Tuesday, Bhagat, using the Hindi word “patao”, said, “One has to bow to Goddess Saraswati for education, Goddess Durga for power and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth. “

The MLA from Kaladhungi had said, “…what does a man have…Lord Shiva lives in the Himalayas and Lord Vishnu lives in the ocean.”

Reacting sharply to Bhagat’s remarks, the Congress had accused him of hurting religious sentiments with his remarks.

A group of saints also appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to act for his remarks against Bhagat, the former president of BJP’s Uttarakhand unit.
