Uttarakhand: Bodies of five more missing trekkers recovered, death toll now 77

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday visited the damaged Gaula bridge in Haldwani and said that work would be done on a war footing to restore the traffic movement.

As the death toll in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand rose to 77, five out of six trekkers were feared dead on the Sudardhunga trek in Bageshwar district on Sunday. However, the search for another trekker is on in the area. Disaster Response Force (SDRF) sources said here.

Meanwhile, 19 people trapped in Kafni Glacier were brought to their village Chuni and 33 people trapped in Pindari Glacier were rescued.

The two trekkers who went missing on their way to Chitkul via Harsil in Uttarkashi district are yet to be traced, he said.

The bodies of seven trekkers, part of an 11-member team, were recovered on Sunday, while two other members of the rescued group are undergoing treatment for a few days.

District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said the bodies of trekkers from West Bengal were sent home after postmortem, while the last rites of a woman trekker from Delhi were performed by her family members in Uttarkashi.
