Twenty-year-old victim, Jayesh Rawal, who works as a daily wage labourer, was dragged from his house on Wednesday afternoon and the four accused were identified as Kiran Mali, Mohan Mali, Ramesh Mali and Kalidas Mali.
Rawal was in a relationship with Kalidas’ daughter Aarti. Kalidas had warned Rawal about two months ago that there would be dire consequences if he continued to meet his daughter or tried to talk to her. However, on Wednesday afternoon, the girl’s mother saw the lovebirds talking near Kalidas’s farm. Although Rawal ran back to his home, his fears of the attack soon came true terrifyingly.
The four accused dragged the youth near the house and thrashed him mercilessly with sticks before dressing him in a sari and tying him to a tree. The four accused took turns thrashing Rawal and even kicked his private parts, while the youth continued to plead for his release. The violence continued due to which the young man soon lost consciousness.
After some time, when Rawal’s cousin came to know about the incident, they ran to his aid, seeing that the four accused fled from the spot. Rawal was tied up and an ambulance was called while his cousin kept on splashing water on his face. However, Rawal failed to respond and was declared brought dead by the doctors at the Government Hospital in Vadoo.
Later on the same night, Ramila, the mother of the deceased youth, lodged a case of murder, kidnapping, wrongful confinement and criminal conspiracy against the four accused at Vadu police station. On Thursday, the four accused were taken into custody and kept in quarantine. They will be taken for a Covid-19 test on Friday, after which they will be formally arrested, police said.
An unidentified person recorded the entire incident of assault on a mobile phone and circulated the video, which went viral on Thursday.
Police said that apart from working as a daily wage laborer, Rawal used to play drums at weddings in the village, while his father is a castor oil trader.
