At least 12 people died in a stampede in Katra Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Saturday morning.
The stampede took place outside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple located on the Trikuta hills. temple at area, about 45km from Jammu, is open round the clock for the devotees.

DGP Mr Singh further tweeted that immediately after the stampede was reported, the J&K Police launched a rescue operation.
Condoling the deaths, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. 50-50 thousand will be given to the injured.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured in the accident.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that he is deeply saddened by the tragic accident at Mata Vaishno Devi temple and spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who assured that the administration is providing treatment to the injured.
