Vancouver library finds book with ‘sorry a bit late’ note after 51 years

During our school or college days, we all used to keep one thing in mind that the library books should be returned on the due date. Some of us even forgot books at home and had to pay a fine. But imagine borrowing a book and not returning it for 51 years. Yes, it happened in the Canadian province of British Columbia. come learn more

Recently, a photo was posted by Vancouver Public Library. The caption read, “Such a lovely note in this book our South Hill branch is *slightly* overdue (51 years!)

“With the recent removal of late fees by us…they will not be charged even a cent for their late returns! Eliminating fines = greater access to all.”

The man returned the book after 51 years. The book was released in April 1971. Take a look at the Vancouver Public Library’s post.

As stated in the caption, the book was returned by an unidentified person to the South Hill branch of Vancouver’s library. With a sarcastic tone, it mentions that the book was returned a bit late, i.e. 51 years. The book was accompanied by a small piece of paper such as a sticky note and an apology letter from the person. The letter read, “Very sorry your library is a bit late but in very good condition. Thank you.”

You must be wondering what this book is all about. The book is known as Telescope and is written by Harry Edward Neill.

Curious to know how much that person had to pay to keep that book for so long? Since the Vancouver Public Library removed the criterion for fines as a punishment for keeping a book after the deadline, the person did not have to pay anything as a fine.
