A “highly radicalized” youth from Assam has been arrested by Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch here and police say investigations are on to find out if he has links to any terrorist organization.
Akhtar Hussain Lashkar, who was working as a food delivery executive, was picked up on Sunday night from a rented flat on the third floor of an apartment in Tilaknagar, where he was staying with some others belonging to the same profession. .
Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said on Monday that police had also detained his “colleagues” for questioning.
Police sources said LeT has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including one for waging war against the Indian government.
“He is an extremely radicalized youth. We worked closely with various agencies. He has been arrested and a case has been registered against him. Investigations and inquiries are on to find out if (his links) any were also with the organisation,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy told reporters.
“He was working as a delivery boy. Other details will come out after investigation,” he said, adding that police were working with various agencies and got information about his activities.
“Details cannot be shared but the fact is that an FIR has been registered and the person has been arrested. Sufficient evidence has been collected regarding radicalized youth in Bengaluru,” he said.
CCB sources further said that Lashkar had fled from North India and was hiding in the city.
After his arrest, the CCB produced him in a special court, which sent him to 10-day police custody.
Sources said that one of his accomplices has also been arrested, although this has not been confirmed by the police.
Gyanendra appreciated the action of the police. The minister recalled that the Bengaluru police had recently arrested a terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir at Okalipuram in the city.
