The Delhi government has banned the bursting, manufacture, storage and sale of firecrackers under Section 9B of the Explosives Act. Health Minister Gopal Rai has said that the manufacture, storage and sale of firecrackers will attract a fine of Rs 5,000 and a jail term of three years. He said bursting of crackers would attract a fine of Rs 200 and jail for six months. This step is being taken by the government to keep the level of pollution in Delhi under control. But it is claimed that people still keep on selling and buying firecrackers illegally. NDTV’s Vyona Wadhwani does a ground report to see if the ban has actually been followed or the ground reality is completely different.
