NFTs were started to celebrate the marriage of Dinesh and Janaganandini.
A couple from Tamil Nadu brought tradition and technology together when they hosted their wedding reception at the Metaverse. Dinesh SP and Janaganandini Ramaswamy were married on 6 February in a small tribal village of Shivalingapuram in Tamil Nadu. The Metaverse is a virtual 3D environment where users can ‘live’ and interact with others through digital avatars. It combines many elements of technology such as augmented reality, blockchain and virtual reality.

Dinesh and Janaganandini opted for a Hogwarts-themed reception as both are Harry Potter fans. A start-up called Tardiverse worked for a month to create the Metaverse where the reception was hosted. Incarnations of the guests and the bride and groom, as well as the late father of the bride, were made.
“My father-in-law passed away last April,” Dines reported CNN before marriage. “So, I’m making a 3D avatar that looks like (her), and that would bless me and my fiancé. It’s something we can only do in the Metaverse.”
Photos and videos from the Metaverse wedding reception were shared online. One of the videos shows a music concert which was conducted from Chennai via Metaverse.

The wedding also included NFTs or non-fungible tokens. The special-edition NFTs were launched by GuardianLink and are available on the Beyondlife.club marketplace. The NFT collection includes background and costume artifacts from the Harry Potter and cyberpunk eras – in addition to classic wedding dresses featuring the late father of the bride, groom and bride.

Dinesh, who is a project associate at IIT Madras, had earlier told how the idea of a metaverse marriage came to him.
