Video | The Waqf Bill passes Parliament after hot debate, receives the approval of the President

President Draupadi Murmu has given its consent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill which was passed by both houses of Parliament after a hot debate.

The new law has been challenged in the Supreme Court with separate petitions by the Congress, AIMIM and AAM AADMI Party (AAP).

The new law wants to prevent bias, misuse of Waqf properties and encroach the Waqf assets. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has said that law is not anti -Muslim.

Amendment was presented after six months of discussions, including the formation of a joint parliamentary committee.
