Will help generate revenue to pay pending salaries to employees: Committee Chairman

The Estimates Committee of the Assembly has urged the government to auction the bar owned by the Puducherry Agricultural Produce Food and Civil Supplies Corporation as a means of generating revenue for payment of pending salaries.

On Tuesday, a committee headed by DMK MLA AMH Najim in the Assembly urged the government to consider the proposal to auction 30 liquor shops under the control of PAPSCO.

Mr Nazeem said that the auction of the outlets would help the government earn around ₹100 crore. This amount can be used for payment of salaries of about 1,000 employees.

He said that they have been working without pay for the last 55 months. Members of BJP, AINRC, DMK and independents participated in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the movement of PAPSCO workers entered its fifth day on Tuesday. The employees have been staging a sit-in under the banner of AITUC for the last five days demanding payment of wages.
