Vijay Hazare Trophy | Samarth takes Karnataka home

Karnataka returned to contention with a seven-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai in the Elite Group B match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy cricket tournament here on Saturday.

Opener R. Samarth (96 not out) showed patience and mood on a difficult pitch to give Karnataka a convincing victory. Samarth and Rohan Kadam (44) put on 95 runs for the first wicket, which laid the foundation for victory.

Defending a modest 208, Mumbai needed to grab half a chance on a pitch that helped the slower bowlers. But, wicketkeeper Hardik Tamor missed a stumping off Tanush Kotian when Samarth was on 21 and Mumbai paid dearly for the lapse.
