Encouraging response to competitions organized by school and college management

Several school and college managements on Tuesday organized competitions for making clay Ganesh idols to make students aware of the need to protect the environment.

The students made Ganesh idols of different sizes from clay, paper, vegetables, rice flour and fruits.

In some schools, staff brought black clay to encourage students to make clay models of Ganesha idols. The teachers said that the children showed interest in carving the idols of Ganesha without paint.

Ganesh idols were made and displayed by the students of classes LKG to 10 at NextGen School, Kanuru. The teachers and parents congratulated the students for their creativity.

“I made an idol of Ganesha out of clay. It’s very simple. After the festival, we can immerse the idol in the nearby irrigation canal. There will be no pollution from clay idols,” said Shravya, a class III student.

“The response from the students is overwhelming. We have asked the students to prepare Ganesh idols on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The class teachers got around 100 models,” said a teacher.

NGOs and some temple managements also organized competitions for the students to make clay idols.

“My mother taught me how to make Ganesh idols out of vegetables. I made an idol out of two onions, two peppers and two carrots. Some of my classmates made idols out of paper and rice flour, which are not harmful to the environment,” said another student, Sreejit.

“We have advised students to prepare clay idols at home and perform puja on Wednesdays. Parental encouragement is good. The students made such idols which are very attractive,” said Sridevi, a teacher.
