Vir Das won the International Emmy for Comedy at the International Emmy Awards 2023.
Vir Das brings home an International Emmy trophy! The comedian won the International Emmy Award for Comedy at the International Emmy Awards 2023. The comedian won the award for his popular Netflix special Vir Das: Landing. The comedian shared the award with Derry Girls Season 3. Both titles were nominated alongside France’s Le Flambeau annd Argentina’s El Encargado. The news of his win was shared by the official International Emmy Awards handle on X, previously known as Twitter.
“We have a Tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to “Vir Das: Landing” produced by Weirdass Comedy / Rotten Science / Netflix #iemmyWIN,” the handle posted, along with a picture of Vir Das. Congratulations have been pouring in since the announcement.
Vir Das was nominated at the awards show last year as well but lost it to Call My Agent Season 4 from France in the comedy category. However, fans had their hopes high this year as Vir got nominated yet again. Speaking about his second nomination, Vir told PTI, “To be a comedy special from India nominated against massive TV shows from across the globe in a category like comedy. I’m just very glad to be able to represent India, Indian comedy and Indian stand up. This ride has been crazy and I’m so thankful for everyone who made this happen – my hardworking team, and of course, Netflix India for putting ‘Vir Das: Landing’ on the map.”
The International Emmy Awards ceremony were held in New York City on November 20. While Vir won, Shefali Shah lost out on her Emmy. The actress lost the award to to Mexican actress Karla Souza for her performance in the series ‘La Cada [Dive]’. The actresses were nominated alongside Connie Nielsen for the Danish project The Dreamer, Becoming Karen Blixen, and Billie Piper in I Hate Suzie Too.
