Indian cooking is pervasive. There are so many cooking methods, ingredients and spices that a dish requires. For many people finding the right taste becomes a challenge. However, following the recipe will not cause any problems for those who cook frequently. While we are all used to the style of cooking in India, we cannot expect a foreigner to cook Indian cuisine like a pro. But one Instagram user is breaking stereotypes by making all kinds of Indian dishes. Jake Drian, a social media user and propagator of plant-based cuisine, has been exposing his audience to a wide array of Indian cuisine. While he cooks dishes like gobi thoran, masala dosa, aloo gobhi, and more- his recent cooking videos of sambar rice have shocked many!

In a video uploaded on his Instagram, you can see him making traditional South Indian style sambar. He first boils the toor dal with turmeric powder. Till then, in a pan, he roasts chickpeas and other vegetables to add to the sambar. Then he takes tamarind and makes a paste out of it. Then he mixes and mixes the lentils, tamarind, spices and sambar masala together. Finally, he makes a tadka with curry leaves, lentils, mustard seeds and red chillies, tops it with sambar, and serves it with rice! Watch his full video here:
Since he uploaded the video, it has garnered 4.2 million views, 260K likes, and over two thousand comments. Many people were amazed at his creation. One user wrote, ‘Being a Tamilian this looks surreal and delicious. Another person mentioned, “The boy even has a proper tempering pan! You’re doing well, my friend. Good food, enjoy!”
