Viral Jellyfish Haircut Trends on Social Media, Internet Divided

Nicole Kidman recently got a haircut for her latest magazine shoot.

A new mullet-style haircut known as the “jellyfish bob” is now taking over social media. First popular on TikTok, the haircut is a mix between a mullet and a katori. The style is named for its resemblance to the shape of a jellyfish, which has two sharply cut layers. While the outer layer of hair is shaped into a short bob, the inner layer remains longer.

At first glance, the hairstyle may seem strange. But after some time, it definitely becomes one of the most distinctive bold styles. Hollywood actor Nicole Kidman also recently got a haircut for her latest magazine shoot.

Take a look below:

Ms. Kidman’s version of the look was styled pin straight, with the top section clearly cut to the length of the chin. The rest of her hair was left flowing to her back and to her side, with very subtle layers added for some texture.

There are many different iterations of the cut, and the style can be made more dramatic with two blunt layers or more subdued with mixed layers. The jellyfish haircut is on its way to become the hottest hairstyle of 2022. According to stir The magazine, #jellyfishhaircut has garnered over seven million views on TikTok.

Apart from this, the trend is catching up on other social media platforms as well. The unique style has become popular because it works for all genders and hair types.

One user wrote, “I took a jellyfish haircut but as a pixie cut and my coworkers call the short hair on each side of my head “tentacles” and I love it.” Another said, “If Bob likes short hair I’ll do it in a second. I love this cut.”

However, not everyone on social media is convinced. One user wrote on Twitter, “Whether I love or hate the jellyfish haircut, I really can’t tell if I’m in trouble and the scissors are dangerously close too.” Another said, “Scrape the whole jellyfish cut, I realized it didn’t look good.-. (long hair wise)”. “Nobody really thinks this haircut looks good on me in my town,” added a third.
