Both Kohli and Pant hit lucrative half-centuries in Team India’s series-winning victory in the second T20 International in Kolkata on Friday.
As reported by PTI, Kohli and Pant will also miss the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka starting February 24 in Lucknow, followed by two more matches in Dharamsala on February 26 and 27.
“Yes, both Kohli and Pant left the house on Saturday morning as India have already won the series.
A senior BCCI official privy to the matter said, “As decided by the BCCI, it will be a policy to give periodic breaks to all regular players of all formats to ensure that their workload management and mental Health can be taken care of. told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Tests for both Kohli and the flamboyant Pant Cricket crucial and both will return for the two matches against Sri Lanka to be held in Mohali (March 4-8) and Bengaluru (March 12-16).
Test specialists like Mayank Agarwal, R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari will enter Chandigarh along with Kohli and Pant at the end of the month.
The match in Mohali will be Kohli’s 100th Test match and the BCCI wants him to stay fit and refreshed for this momentous occasion.
Both Kohli and Pant have played most of the matches since the start of the South Africa tour.
Kohli has played two Tests, six ODIs and two T20Is since the start of the tour against South Africa. He missed a Test match due to a back spasm and played all games since the third Test in South Africa.
Pant played three Tests, six ODIs and two T20Is for his side and needed a bubble break after his two-Test break against New Zealand in early December.
“It’s never easy to play with the bubbles consistently, but that’s what I wanted to do when I started playing,” Pant said at the post-match presentation ceremony after winning the man of the match award on Friday.
Senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a good chance of being Rohit Sharma’s deputy though the selectors cannot name anyone.
The absence of Pant and Kohli also opens up two slots in the batting order where two of Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be fitted.
Captain Rohit Sharma is currently playing as he got a break of one and a half months during the South Africa series.
However, India players may be exempted from bubble-to-bubble transfers after March 16 as there is a gap of 11 days between the end of the Sri Lanka series and the start of the Indian Premier League.
There is a good chance that all Indian players will get at least five days off before joining their IPL squads which will continue for about eight weeks.
