India captain Rohit Sharma pointed to the team’s failure with the ball after they suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. The result shook India out of the tournament in an embarrassing way. While Rohit felt the bowlers let the team down while defending a total of 168, the former India opener Virender Sehwag do not agree. Sehwag feels that the way India batted in the first 10 overs, they lost the match.
in a chat cricbuzz After the conclusion of the second semi-final on Thursday, Sehwag highlighted how India’s failure in the powerplay prevented them from scoring a big total across the board. 168 runs, according to the aggressive opener, was not a par score on the pitch.
“If the top order has batted 12 overs to make 82 runs (77), then it is not correct to expect the rest of the batsmen to play fearless cricket and score 100 runs in eight overs. Yes, the average total of this ground. The total could probably be 150-160 and you made more than that. But on that day itself, if a batsman gets set on that pitch, the average total doesn’t matter. We have seen this happen many times here Sehwag on Cricbuzz Said, “Wankhede Stadium or Feroz Shah Kotla or even in Chennai. Today’s game could not have been won by 150-160.”
“New Zealand played a certain way (in their first match) against Australia, but they didn’t do it again in the semi-finals and they were out. If India thought they had made an above-par total and it was bowling It’s the unit’s fault that the team lost, I don’t agree with that. India lost the match in the first 10 overs when the batsmen didn’t give the kind of start it needed.”

At the post-match presentation ceremony, India captain Rohit said: “Very disappointed how it turned out today. We batted well at the backend to get that score. We weren’t up to the mark with the ball, we Couldn’t turn today. It’s about handling pressure in knockout games. All these guys have played enough to understand it. These guys have played under pressure in IPL games, it’s all about staying calm.”
India now has no option but to return home and regroup for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. As far as the 2024 T20 World Cup is concerned, a lot of changes are expected.
