The state government is planning to launch a virtual employment exchange or online portal exclusively for Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) in the upcoming financial year.

Making the announcement during his policy address, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan told the Assembly on February 18 that about 70% of the 1.75 million migrants who returned to Kerala during the COVID-19 crisis could not return due to job losses.

He said that the Department of Non-Resident Kerala Affairs (NORKA) had launched a scheme named Pravasi Bhadratha For rehabilitation, re-integration and coordination of NRKs. Accordingly, help was being given to the returnees to start nano, small and micro enterprises.

He said the state-run foreign recruitment agency NORKA ROOTS had entered into a contract with the German Federal Employment Agency as part of the Triple Win program to recruit nurses in Germany. “This has opened up more than 10,000 job opportunities for state nurses in the German health care sector in the post-COVID-19 scenario,” Mr Khan said.
