Visakhapatnam collector tells officials to ‘take steps to prevent accidents on the coast’

District Collector A. Mallikarjuna has directed the officials to take strict measures to protect the coast in the district.

In a review meeting of the Coastal Safety Committee here on Monday, the Collector directed the officials to create awareness among the visitors and tourists to prevent accidents on the coast. They should be informed of the behavior of the tides, especially during bad weather. Tidal action on the Vizag coast changes frequently and more warning boards are needed to alert tourists.

The services of a few more community guards may be utilized depending on the need. He directed Matsya JD to collect the details of sea-going boats for fishing, inform Coast Guard and Marine Police from time to time.

Additional commissioner of GVMC Y. Srinivasa Rao, Additional SP Vimala Kumari, Fisheries JD Laxman Rao, officials of Tourism, Navy, Coast Guard, Tehsildar and Inspector of Police were present.
