VW recently closed a joint run plant with FAW Group in Tianjin city due to the COVID-19 outbreak

Volkswagen Group’s China unit said on Thursday it has closed a plant jointly run by the FAW Group as well as a components factory in Tianjin city due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. “Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, both the FAW-VW vehicle plant and the VW automatic transmission Tianjin component factory have been closed since Monday,” a spokesman told Reuters.

“Both plants have conducted COVID-19 tests twice this week for all employees and are awaiting results. We expect to resume production very soon and come to grips with lost production. The top priority is our employees of health and well-being.”

Tianjin, in northern China, about 100 km (62 miles) from the capital Beijing, reported 41 household infections with confirmed symptoms on Wednesday, up from 33 a day earlier, National Health Commission data showed on Thursday.
