The upcoming Volkswagen Vertus is a compact sedan specially designed for the Indian market, as a replacement for the outgoing Volkswagen Vento. The production of the new car has recently started from the company’s Chakan plant in Pune. The new VW Vertus is Volkswagen’s second product under the India 2.0 project, after the Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV launched last year.
Compared to its sibling Skoda Slavia, the upcoming Volkswagen Vertus has a muscular face.

Compared to its sibling, the Skoda Slavia, the upcoming Volkswagen Vertus sports a muscular face, with a single slate grille surrounded by chrome garnishes and LED headlamps. The L-shaped LED DRLs look sporty. Sharp lines and sharp design are a common feature with VW cars, and quite evident with the Vertus as well, as the GT badge will be exclusive to the performance line. The 16-inch alloy wheels complement the overall stance of the car. Chrome inserts for the door handles, contrast black ORVMs and roof complete the profile while wrap-around LED taillights, vertical lettering on the boot lid, and a boot-mounted number plate recess cover the rear of the car.
Inside, the VW Virtus gets a black and beige interior theme.

The instrument cluster remains the same as the Skoda Slavia, while you also get a 10-inch touchscreen, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with ventilated seats for the front passengers. The VW Virtus also gets an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control and wireless charging. Safety is also important for VW and so 40+ features are standard including 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, multi-collision brakes, tire pressure deflation warning, and hill hold control, among others.
The Volkswagen Vertus is much bigger than the Vento. The rear profile is reminiscent of the old Jetta.

The Volkswagen Vertus compact sedan will get two engine options – a 1.0-litre TSI petrol and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol. The first will churn out 113 bhp/178 Nm peak torque while the latter will develop 148 bhp/250 Nm torque. The 1.0-litre TSI engine will get a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, and the 1.5-litre TSI engine will be mated to an upgraded 7-speed DSG transmission. We expect the Volkswagen Vertus to price between ₹ 10 Lakh and ₹ 19 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
