Diess has been a huge proponent of electrification and this has prompted VW to invest upwards of €80 billion.
VW boss explains how EVs are cheaper than petrol cars
In a LinkedIn post Volkswagen boss, Herbert Diess basically explained how electric cars are better than his own petrol cars. It compares fuel consumption and cost with its line of electric cars that are cheaper to use in the long run than its own petrol cars. He compared the Tiguan to the ID.4, which he believed costs 30 percent more per kilometer run. The cost went up when he compared the Audi Q5 with the Q5 e-tron, which was 40 percent more expensive per kilometer. In the case of the Skoda Kodiaq sold in India, he revealed that it was 50 percent more expensive than the Enyaq.

“It costs 50% more to drive a car with a combustion engine than an e-car. Autozeitung does the math, taking all costs into account: driving a VW Tiguan by about 30 percent per kilometer compared to ID.4 % costs more. Kilometers in an Audi Q5 are about 40% more than a Q4 e-tron. And driving a Skoda Kodiaq is about 50% more expensive per kilometer than an Enyaq. It’s time to switch ,” said the Volkswagen CEO.
Under Diess, Volkswagen has sought to reform itself after the “Dieselgate” and has led the entire group to make audacious investments in electric powertrains across all brands and verticals. He also befriended Elon Musk and recently invited the Tesla boss to share his insights with his top 200 managers.

While he posted this graph on LinkedIn, it should be noted that it has now been removed. It also comes as Diess warned that Volkswagen could lose 30,000 jobs if the transition to EVs is not accelerated.
