Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukrainian army captured places near Kharkiv

Ukraine War: Ukraine has been waging retaliation in the south of the country since last week.

Kyiv:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Kyiv troops have recaptured several settlements in the Kharkiv region in the country’s northeast from Russian forces.

“This week we have good news from the Kharkiv region,” Zelensky said in his daily address.

Observers have reported a breakthrough by Ukrainian forces in the Kharkiv region in recent days, with no official confirmation of potential gains.

Ukraine has been launching a counter-offensive since last week in the country’s south, where it also claimed to have captured several villages.

The Kharkiv region is partly occupied by Russian troops since the start of the offensive, launched on 24 February.

The city of the same name – the second largest in Ukraine – is regularly targeted by deadly bombings, but it has never been seized by Russian troops.
