The Volvo S90 and XC60 have been updated with new petrol mild-hybrid powertrains.

Volvo Cars India has launched the petrol mild-hybrid version of the 2021 S90 sedan and XC60 SUV in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹61.9 lakh for the S90, while the XC60 has also been priced at ₹61.9 lakh. In addition, Volvo is also offering a three-year warranty and service for both the models at an additional cost of ₹75,000. The move comes in the wake of Volvo’s shift toward clean technologies as the Swedish carmaker gears up to transition from diesel to petrol powertrains and eventually a fully electric range by the end of this decade. In fact by 2030, it is expected that every model in Volvo’s line-up will also have an electrified version. In the Indian market too, as the company plans to double its sales this fiscal, it is also pushing for electric offerings with the confirmation of the launch of the new Volvo XC40 Recharge EV in 2022.

The Volvo XC60 mild-hybrid gets a 2.0-litre petrol motor along with an electric motor.

Now talking about the Volvo XC60, this SUV has the latest pilot assist function. It is then also updated with the brand’s ‘Digital Services’ package with voice assistants and services with an Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system packed with built-in Google apps. Under the hood, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine is mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor that makes 247 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed gearbox as standard.

The Volvo S90 petrol mild-hybrid model also offers similar features seen on the XC60. It also gets subtle design updates like new grille which now sports the brand new logo, front and rear bumpers with new chrome line, new alloy wheels and new body colours. Again, it is powered by the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor and is in the same condition. So the powertrain churns out 247 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque while the engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Both the models will be sold as the company’s knock down (CKD) units in India and while the Volvo XC60 will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, the upcoming Audi Q5 facelift and the Jaguar F-Pace, the S90 sedan. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will go up against models like the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
