US shares opened higher on Tuesday as investors tried to allay fears of contagion from a possible collapse of China’s Evergrande, with the Federal Reserve meeting to focus on more cues on monetary policy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened up 55.14 points, or 0.16%, at 34,025.61.
The S&P 500 opened up 16.72 points, or 0.38%, at 4,374.45. The Nasdaq Composite was up 89.46 points, or 0.61%, at 14,803.36 in the opening round.
Uber jumped 7.6% after raising the outlook. European markets were also higher and Asian markets were mostly up. Sugar markets remained closed on the day of the holiday. Energy prices were mostly high. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note remained stable at 1.31%.
