Warsaw: Polish and Ukrainian government officials say they plan to hold public demonstrations in Warsaw showing damaged or burned Russian tanks and armored vehicles captured by Ukrainian forces during the war.
The head of the Polish Prime Minister’s Office, Michal Dvorsky, said the idea was to highlight Russian “atrocities” and the Ukrainian backlash.
“On the one hand we are showing the atrocities committed by the Russian military in Ukraine, (and) on the other we are showing the heroic defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the results of these battles,” Dvorsky said.
The ironically named “Invincible Army” open-air exhibition will be staged at Castle Square in Warsaw’s Old Town, which was painstakingly rebuilt after being devastated during fighting in World War II.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksey Reznikov said this week that similar demonstrations are planned in other European capitals such as Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Lisbon.
“We will help ensure that the Russian tanks end up in Europe, but in the form of debris,” Reznikov told Polish Polsat TV News Sunday.
Ukraine has been urging its Western allies to provide more military equipment and munitions to support its defense against serious Russian attacks in the country’s east.
