Norwegian diplomat Erik Solheim, who is once again amazed by the mesmerizing beauty of “Incredible India”, recently shared a breathtaking drone video of the highest Shiva temple in the Himalayas. Mr Solheim shared the clip on Twitter on Sunday, and has since garnered over 720,000 views and more than 50,000 likes.
“Incredible India! The World’s Highest Place” Mahadev Temple.., believed to be 5000 years old! Uttarakhand,” the diplomat captioned the post.

The post immediately caught the attention of internet users. While some netizens were simply blown away by the beauty of the amazing scene, however, others pointed out that the diplomat’s caption might be misleading.
One user wrote, “It is amazing that the architecture of the temple is excellent, it has survived avalanches and even earthquakes.” Another said, “Tungnath Mahadev Temple, one of the Panch Kedars. The road to the temple is spectacular. A little above is Chandrashila, with a 270-degree wide view of the Himalayan peaks. Incredible India.”
A third said, “It is not the tallest, and the temple structure is certainly not 5000 years old. It is a beautiful temple in itself, and there is no need for these wrong adjectives.” The fourth remarked, “Cannot be as old. The present temple was built around the 8th century AD during the time of Adi Shankara. Any earlier archaeological evidence would be difficult due to the area which is subject to floods and avalanches.”

Meanwhile, according to the government site, Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is believed that this temple is one thousand years old.
