Three lions attempt to cross a river on the Selinda Reserve spillway in Botswana when they are stopped by an angry hippo. The Great Plains Conservation shared video of the incident on YouTube and described it as an “unforgettable moment”.
The clip shows three lions crossing the river and a fourth lion hanging back on the shore, apparently waiting to see if it is safe to cross. A giant hippo is seen immediately charging all three and attacking one of them in the water in a clear display of strength and territorial dominance.

The video has surfaced on several social media platforms and has left internet users stunned. On Reddit, the clip has garnered over 58,000 upvotes and nearly 3,000 comments.
At the same time, a user wrote, ‘That hippopotamus was running full gallop in the water! F******* awesome.” Another joked, “Don’t know why, but seeing the lion running back to the shore in the form of a hippopotamus is really upsetting to me.”
A third said, “The way it operates this way through the water! Dirt isn’t easy for most four-legged creatures on the planet.” A fourth explained, “The bodies of hippos are too dense to swim in. So when the lions were trying to swim, the hippo was just running in the water.”

Notably, the hippopotamus is the world’s deadliest giant land mammal, according to BBC, It kills an estimated 500 people per year in Africa. Hippopotamuses are aggressive creatures and have very sharp teeth. They are said to be twice as deadly as lions.
