Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways Ashwini Vaishnav on Thursday announced the successful trial of 5G calls at IIT Madras. 5G network is an important step for India towards self-reliance in the telecom sector.
Vaishnav shared a video of the making 5G Call IIT Madras in front of media, faculties and other officials.
“The 5G call was successfully tested at IIT Madras. The entire end-to-end network is designed and developed in India,” he said.

Earlier on May 17, PM Narendra Modi in his address during the silver jubilee celebrations of TRAI dedicated the self-made 5G test beds. He said that this is an important step towards self-reliance in important and modern technology in the telecom sector.
During his speech, Modi said, “The country’s own 5G standard has been made in the form of 5G, it is a matter of great pride for the country. It will play a big role in taking 5G technology to the villages of the country.”
The PM had highlighted that 5G technology is going to bring about a positive change in the governance, ease of life and ease of doing business of the country. This will boost development in every sector like agriculture, health, education, infrastructure and logistics. This will also increase the facility and many employment opportunities will be created.
India also aims to advance the 6G network.
In February this year, Vaishnav inaugurated India Telecom 2022, a platform for convergence of technology and business exchange.
