A dramatic video captured the moment a stray dog ​​strayed into a gorilla’s enclosure at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in the United States.

According to the San Diego Humane Society, staff and guests were surprised to see a dog inside the gorilla enclosure, after which they called the organization for help. It is still unclear how this happened, however, as a video captured by visitor Destiny Pickett and made available by Storyful is going viral on the Internet.

In the footage, the gorilla is seen chasing the stray dog ​​which managed to enter his enclosure. It also shows the dog running from one side of the enclosure to the other, as a large gorilla named Frank is following behind. The viral video shows the two animals chasing a cat and a mouse, as onlookers can be heard shouting the gorilla’s name in hopes of distracting the ape.

Finally a zookeeper is also seen throwing the bait over the enclosure. Speaking to Storyful, Mr. Pickett said, “I was worried that Silverback was about to catch the dog. I was very worried the whole time, waiting for the staff to arrive.”

The San Diego Humane Society informed in a social media statement that the dog has been successfully removed from the enclosure. Nicknamed “Mighty Joe Young,” this courageous dog is now being cared for at our Escondido campus, and our staff shared that while he didn’t have a microchip or collar, he is in perfect health and extremely sociable,” the organization said.

It also said that no animals, staff or guests of the Safari Park were harmed during the incident. The dog was a one and a half year old male shepherd without a microchip. The search is on for the potential owner.
