On Kolkata’s iconic Park Street, large crowds see through the central business district

Thousands of people in Kolkata were seen wearing some masks in public places to celebrate Christmas on Saturday and few people were seen taking precautions amid rising coronavirus cases and Omicron alert in many parts of the country.
In the video from Kolkata’s iconic Park Street, large crowds were seen pouring in from the business district. The famous lights of Chandranagar in West Bengal lit up the area lined with popular eateries.
Apart from Park Street, thousands of people gathered in the city and other places on the occasion of Christmas.
The city’s favorite places like Alipore Zoo, Eco Park, Victoria Memorial, Millennium Park, Indian Museum witnessed huge crowds without masks since morning.
On the streets, the police were continuously announcing the wearing of masks on the public address system but many people were seen violating the guidelines.
Over 80 people were arrested from different parts of the city for various illegal activities on Christmas eve, a senior police officer said.
He said 191 other clerics were detained for not wearing masks amid a huge crowd.
The West Bengal government has relaxed the movement of people and vehicles between 11 pm and 5 am for nine days from December 24, 2021 to January 1, 2022.
However, the night restrictions and other COVID measures have been extended till January 15, 2022.
