‘Watch’ Season 2 review: The art of survival is given a new force in Apple TV+ drama

Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista face off in this gritty and apocalyptic continuation of ‘C’

I’ve always felt that See One of the Dark Horse Series of 2019 was; He just didn’t get the love he deserved. The show took itself out of the box of the ‘sensory deprivation’ themes that appear in films such as a quiet place And bird box, and spun its own intriguing story with bone-crunching, blood-shattering action.

The series follows a post-apocalyptic world where everyone has lost the ability to see. A group of twins seen in the Alcani tribe, led by Baba Voss (Jason Momoa), leads to a series of battles, political turmoil, and more chaos, initiated by the opposing Queen Kane (Sylvia Hoakes). . The end of the season shows that more babies are born with sight in the world. And on top of the devastation, Baba’s own brother from a neighboring tribe, Edo, placed a bounty on him.

So season one left a lot of loose ends that have been hopelessly left unanswered for over a year, thanks to the pandemic.

acting level up

The navigation of Momoa to Baba Voss in a new set of circumstances is exciting. The actor revealed a lot of depth in his acting to meet the day-to-day dangers that Baba has to face as a reward. Season one left Baba vulnerable to more threats, but he still has loved ones to watch, and Momoa nurtures his protective side even more which is a joy to watch.

Totally cringe acting after we saw army of the deadI was just too happy to be proven wrong about Dave Bautista. Bautista brings passion and bestiality alike to Edo, making him a true adversary of Baba, not only physically, but emotionally as well. His character beauty, reminiscent of Genghis Khan, also matches the ruthless nature of the Mongol leader. Momoa and Bautista’s chemistry — even if they’re not in a scene together — is remarkable, and it seems as though Baba and Edo should be listed as television’s most notable sibling rivalry.

Hoax’s portrayal as a sly leader is as brilliant as ever; Whether it’s her extremely disturbing scenes of “praying through masturbation” or keeping secrets from her own clan and leaving her homeless, Queen Kane’s story is one of the most intriguing in the series.

As always, Alfre Woodard delivers remarkable talent to commanding Paris. We learn more about the journey to Paris, and Woodard and the writers make sure their character’s arc lives up to audience expectations. Her relationship to the heretic Gerlmarel (who has fathered several visually impaired children) and her loving nature towards Baba make her one of the most conflicting but interesting characters on the show.

While the characters are rather exciting, See It wouldn’t be without a beautifully crafted world of crumbling cities with steampunk overtones, blizzard-filled tundra and eerie forests. Viewers unfamiliar with the series may assume that it is a pre-historic era, but the era is actually set in the future. While season one warned the world we might one day experience, season two dive more into the story that will satisfy fans — new and old — for this under-appreciated series.
