New Delhi: People with deep pockets are expected to bid IPL Media rights but treasurer Arun Dhumal said on Friday that the introduction of a non-exclusive package would encourage even smaller players to be part of the bidding process.
BCCI has set a combined base price of around Rs 33,000 crore for media rights for 2023-2027, which is double what Star India paid for the existing rights.
The base price for Package A (India Sub-continent TV Rights) is Rs 49 crores per game and for Package B (India Sub-continent Digital Rights) is Rs 33 crores per game.
The base price for Package C (Non-Exclusive Digital Rights) is Rs 16 crore per game. Package C will consist of only 18 games including the play-offs and the final.
For Package D (Remaining World TV and Digital Rights), the base price has been set at Rs 3 crore per game.
When asked about his expectations from PTI, Dhumal said, “We don’t predict prices or set targets. It’s the market that decides the price. Our aim and job is to ensure a fair, transparent and inclusive ITT.” Is.”
The cost of procuring the Bid Document – Invitation (ITT) – is Rs.25 lakhs.
“It’s an asset that the entire sporting world is looking forward to. It should come at whatever price the markets feel is right.”
The likes of UK-based investment company CVC and Manchester United The owners had come to the table of bidding for two new teams in the IPL.
CVC eventually made the winning bid for the Ahmedabad franchise and Lucknow for India’s RPSG Group.
“The bidding for two new teams has shown that IPL has become a global brand and is only going to grow in future. I expect more interest from global players for media rights,” he added.
Streaming giant Amazon is expected to take the ITT document.
“IPL is a global league, the idea is to make it more participation from small to big players. There are some players for whom cricket is not the main sport right now but in their future plans, so they don’t want to eat the whole cake but Start with a small pie.
“This ITT ensures their participation either in a non-exclusive bundle or for international territories.
“One can only be interested in the UK, Middle East or Australia region and they can participate. Similarly, one may not be interested in all 74 sports, they may go for the limited pack,” explained the treasurer.
‘Best time to start Women’s IPL’
In a recent meeting, the IPL Governing Council discussed the 5-6 team women’s IPL from 2023. The proposal would require the approval of the AGM.
Dhumal said the availability of players will decide the number of teams in the competition.
“We need to, first, look at the availability of players and then create a window. Everything has a time. Women’s cricket has evolved over the years and we think it’s time to start working in that direction.” May be the most appropriate time for this. We are working on it,” he said.
He also said that work is also being done on the venue of this year’s Women’s Exhibition Games. Matches can be played during IPL play-offs, which usually happens.
