Karnataka Congress MLA G Parameshwara, who was reportedly miffed at being denied the deputy chief minister’s post, on Friday said “sacrifices” have to be made “at some point”.
When asked about G Parameshwara not being given the post of Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister, he said, “It is okay. We all have to make sacrifices sometime or the other. It is a good thing happening.”
The Congress on Thursday officially announced the names of its chief ministerial and deputy chief ministerial faces, thus ending the suspense that had been going on for days. Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar were elected Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively.
Both the leaders are scheduled to visit the national capital today to discuss the names of the MLAs to be included in the government. He had returned to Bengaluru yesterday to attend the Congress Legislature Party meeting and stake claim to form the government before the Governor. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 20.
Amid rapid political developments, reports emerged that Lingayat leader MB Patil and Dalit leader G Parameshwara were upset at being denied deputy chief minister posts.
Speaking to ANI on Dalit community’s demand for Deputy CM post for G Parameshwara, Mr Patil said, “Whoever voted – Lingayat, Dalit, Vokkaliga, ST, Muslim – all these people should be given their due share I am sure our party will do the same. They will give due respect to all these communities and power will be shared with all the communities.”
Asked about the Lingayat community’s demand for the Deputy CM’s post for him, Mr Patil said he was confident that the Congress would give its fair share to the community.
He said, “…Lingayats contesting on BJP ticket have been rejected. So, naturally, when we have come to Congress, the expectations are high. They want fair share. I am sure That our party will take care of it.” ,
“…why not? I would have been very happy if I had got 50 seats,” Patil said, asking about the “struggle” triggered by the Lingayat and Dalit communities’ demand for G Parameshwara and deputy CM posts for him. . The party’s massive victory in the Karnataka elections.
Karnataka Congress MLA and former state minister TB Jayachandra, reacting to reports that MB Patil and G Parameshwara were stripped of deputy CM posts, said, “No, it is the high command’s decision to make DK Shivakumar the sole deputy chief minister.” . So, I don’t think other things will go up.”
A seasoned political leader with socialist leanings, Mr. Siddaramaiah is set to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka for a second term, with the Congress leadership deciding to task him with speedy fulfillment of promises made to the people, including the “Five Guarantees”.
