A day after India’s Test captain Virat Kohli Created a storm by publicly denying him, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly It declined to comment on the matter, saying the board would deal with it. Kohli said during his pre-departure press conference ahead of the South Africa tour that he was never asked to stay on as T20 captain when he made it clear his intention to step down. This was in stark contrast to Ganguly’s statement a few days back in which Kohli was asked not to step down.

“No statement, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (BCCI),” Ganguly told local media persons on Thursday.

There was talk that BCCI had asked chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma to address the media after Kohli’s explosive press conference, but the board ultimately refrained from making any counter statements.

Kohli’s comments on Wednesday brought to the fore the underlying tension in his equation with the administrators.

Kohli had made a clear reference to Ganguly’s statement, saying, “Whatever was said about the communication about the decision made, it was wrong.”

He said, ‘When I left the captaincy of T20, I first approached BCCI and informed them about my decision and put my point before them.

He said, “I explained the reason for leaving T20 captaincy and my idea was very well received. There was no offense, there was no hesitation and not even once was told ‘You don’t have T20 captaincy’ should leave.”

Earlier, Ganguly had said in an interview to PTI that he had spoken to Kohli and told him that having two captains in the white-ball format was not something the selectors wanted as “there would be too much leadership.” Rohit Sharma is now the only white-ball captain and has also been made Kohli’s deputy in the Test format.
