West Bengal government admits students returned from Ukraine in Indian colleges, offers jobs for workers

The West Bengal government claims to have adopted all 422 students and three workers from the state rescued from Ukraine. In an official statement, the state government claimed that out of the total returnees, 412 were medical students, including 409 MBBS and three dental students. In addition, six engineering students, one veterinary student and three workers were also rescued from Ukraine. All of them have been absorbed in India and may not have to return to Ukraine.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claims that the central government is “indifferent” to these students, with the state making special provisions for citizens who have returned from Ukraine.

“We have tried our best to accommodate most of them in our private and government medical/engineering colleges. We accommodated them on humanitarian grounds. The Modi government is indifferent to the future of the medical students who have returned from Ukraine.”

The state government said all the six engineering students have been offered seats in private engineering colleges under the JIS group, two of them have already joined their colleges and others are in the process of joining.

One student who has completed his studies will be allowed to do his internship at Government Dental College, Kolkata, while the remaining two students enrolled in the second year of his medical education will be allowed to take observership and practical classes in Government Dental Colleges Will go state.

Veterinary student has been provided admission in WB Animal and Fisheries Science University from the upcoming session.

Two persons have been accommodated as DRWs (contingency workers) with Nadia DM office. Their families are also being provided loans to start a small business; The third person has left for a job in Dubai.

Among the medical students, 23 are in their sixth year and will be allowed to undergo internship as per the standard in government medical colleges. These will be allowed to pass through ‘observing seats’ in their fifth and fourth year in a distributed manner in various medical colleges. Around 15-20 students will be allotted to each state-based college.

People in second and third year of medicine will be allowed to attend ‘practical classes’ in various government hospitals. Medical College in a distributed manner. All those who have qualified NEET for the current year (2021) have been allowed to appear for counseling immediately in our private medical colleges against management quota seats for fresh admission. The state government claims that the colleges have been requested to give concession in the fees charged from these students.
