Howrah: The RPF on Wednesday arrested a person for carrying Rs 35 lakh in cash from Howrah station. Rajkumar Soni, 52, was arrested after he failed to explain the source of the money or the reason why he was carrying the money. The cash was confiscated and later handed over to the police. Acting on information, RPF intercepted Soni soon after she got down from Chambal Express on Wednesday afternoon. As he got down from the platform, RPF personnel chased him and surrounded him. Rupees have been recovered from his bag. Soni is a resident of Jabalpur.
On investigation, Soni claimed that he was taking money from a person from Nadia to buy jewellery, which was to be received from him near Burabazar. But he failed to provide any valid document. IT officials were called and they started questioning Soni.
According to ROF sources, it is being probed whether the money was being sent through hawala or not.
