On February 3, schools for classes 8 to 12 had reopened in WB. The government has allowed all practical and theory classes for class 10 and 12 students appearing for board exams this year. Teaching and non-teaching staff were allowed to join schools from February 2.
“The situation of COVID-19 in Bengal has improved. Schools will reopen on February 3 for classes 8 to 12. Colleges, universities, polytechnics and ITIs will also resume offline classes on the same day. We are not reopening primary schools yet,” CM Mamata Banerjee had earlier said. She had also said that a decision on reopening primary classes would be taken later.
All students, teaching and staff members have been asked to follow all COVID-19 protocols. COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks and use of sanitizers are mandatory. Earlier, the West Bengal Board of School Education had asked parents and guardians to create awareness about the COVID-19 protocol while attending offline classes. Besides schools, colleges and universities have also been allowed to reopen.
Meanwhile, the middle and higher secondary exams are to be conducted as per the schedule, the WB education department had said. Class 12 board exams will be held from April 2 to April 20, while class 10 exams will be held from March 7 to March 16. The officials are hopeful that the situation of Kovid-19 will improve once the board exams are held.
