The film will debut in Indian cinemas on December 10.
An adaptation of the famous 1957 Broadway musical of the same title, “West Side Story” stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Ziegler, Ariana Debos and David Alvarez.
“From 20th Century Studios, Disney India will release ‘West Side Story’ in cinemas on December 10, 2021,” a statement from the makers said.
“West Side Story” tells the classic tale of forbidden love between Tony (Elgort) and Maria (Ziegler) and the rival Jets and Shark gangs’ hatred for each other.
The musical also stars Mike Faust, Josh Andres Rivera, Anna Isabel, Corey Stoll and Brian D’Arcy James.
Veteran actor Rita Moreno, who received an Academy Award in 1961 for her role as Anita in the feature adaptation of the Broadway play, will appear in a new role in Spielberg’s film.
Tony Kushner wrote the screenplay for the film, produced by Spielberg, Christy Macosko Krieger and Kevin McCollum.
