Pasta is usually boiled and added to a sauce that is cooked separately. However, in this viral one-pot French Onion Pasta, pasta can be added raw. Adding stock or broth to pasta helps it cook, and as the pasta cooks it releases starches in the sauce that give it a creamy and satisfying texture. It also saves precious cooking time and reduces the number of dishes to wash afterwards!
So, without further ado, let’s get down to the recipe of One-Pot French Onion Pasta which is going viral lately.
Here’s the complete recipe for One-Pot French Onion Pasta shared on social media:
Component:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/8 cup sherry (optional)
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 5 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 packet pasta, raw
- 3 cups stock or broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- 1/4 cup cream (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
- Melt butter in a large pot or Dutch oven. When it melts, add finely chopped onions to it. Season with a generous pinch of salt. Stir and let brown for 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium, and cook until onions begin to caramelize, about 20 minutes. Keep stirring continuously to avoid burning.
- Pour in sherry and wine, scraping up brown bits on bottom of pan and deglaze. This step is completely optional. Add fresh thyme and season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Add uncooked pasta and then pour in broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to the boil and cook for about 15 minutes or until pasta is al dente.
- Switch off the flame. Discard the thyme sprigs. Stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese and fresh cream until well combined.
- Serve immediately garnished with additional Parmesan cheese.
