WhatsApp extends deadline for secretly deleting messages for everyone; Now you can delete text older than 2 days

WhatsApp banned over 22 lakh accounts in India in May 2022.

The ability for WhatsApp to delete messages older than two days has been in beta for some time now.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps in the world, and has many features that make communication easier and more intuitive. WhatsApp keeps updating the app and brings new features from time to time to try to make things better for the users.

WhatsApp has rolled out the ability to secretly delete messages that are up to two days old. It was earlier reported that the feature has been rolled out for beta testers, but what came as a surprise to us is that it has started rolling out to all users as we can test. Earlier, WhatsApp only allowed users to delete messages that were one or two hours old. Now, messages up to two days show a “delete for all” option, which means the limit has been extended to at least two days.

There is no official announcement from WhatsApp. In fact, WhatsApp’s FAQ page even reveals that users have “about an hour after sending a message to delete for everyone”. WhatsApp says in its “How to Delete Messages” FAQ page, “You only have one hour after you can send a message to request deletion for everyone.” However, as per our testing on both Android and iOS, we were able to delete messages that are up to two days old. We removed the messages for everyone from Tuesday before publishing this article on Thursday, August 4.

Earlier, it was reported that WhatsApp is extending the “delete message for everyone” deadline to 2 days and 12 hours, and we were able to delete messages for everyone who is 2 days and 8 hours old, Which is pretty much means the new deadline has been rolled out.

You can go into any chat on your WhatsApp and delete a message that is almost two days old and see if the feature has been rolled out to you. If not, we estimate that it will be visible in a few days.
