“King Richard” – Directed by Reynaldo Marcus Green, the story of Richard Williams – the father, coach and driving force behind tennis legend Venus and Serena Williams – stars Will Smith in the lead. The film earned six Oscar nominations, including one for Smith. Best Picture and Original Song for “Be Alive” by Ajonew Ellis, Dixon and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. It’s an intimate, authoritative view of the family and their rise from Compton, Calif. to the top of the tennis world. The film is no longer streaming to HBO Max subscribers, but may return someday. “Nightmare Alley” – This Guillermo del Toro remake of the 1947 neo-noir classic earned four Oscar awards, including Best Picture and Cinematography. The cast is star packed: Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen and David Strathearn. It’s the story of a handsome hustler’s brief rise, from low-level Carney to high-paid showman. It’s also streaming to Hulu subscribers.

“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”—the story of the rise and fall of televangelist power couple Tammy Faye and Jim Baker—earned Chastain his third Oscar nomination. The film received two nods—including makeup and hairstyling—notable for Tammy. Andrew Garfield plays Bakker.

Aaron Sorkin creates a loving and intense dramatization of a particularly horrifying week during the making of the TV classic “I Love Lucy.”

“Coming 2 America” ​​- This sequel to the Eddie Murphy hit earned an Oscar nomination for hair and makeup. “Luca” – Disney and Pixar’s coming-of-age story about a boy and his summer on the Italian Riviera is one of the contenders for best animated feature. Luca is voiced by Jacob Tremblay. He befriends another boy, Alberto, voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer. There’s a lot of fun by the sea, but the two share a dangerous secret. Directed by Enrico Casarosa.

“Rae and the Last Dragon” – another film in the competition for best animated feature. Travel to Kumandra, where 500 years ago an evil force destroyed the harmony between humans and dragons. Dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, that evil is back and the warrior Raya once again goes in search of a mythical last dragon to restore order.

“Drive My Car,” from Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, is a three-hour drama that garnered four major Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was adapted from a Haruki Murakami short story. The film follows a widowed actor played by Hidetoshi Nishijima. He seeks out a driver and ends up with a 20-year-old girl played by Toko Miura. A touching friendship develops against a backdrop of loss and sadness.

The re-imagining of Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” is still playing in theaters, but it will be available to Disney customers starting March 2. His version of the 1961 classic received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Director for Him. Ariana DeBos was nominated for Anita. Spielberg, Tony Kushner and Steven Sondheim dig deep to rethink the iconic Romeo and Juliet story, in which sharks and jets are front and center in New York City.
