WHO says COVID pandemic can be ended if…; Lists 6 actions to defeat coronavirus

Cautioning that COVID is not over yet, World Health Organization (WHO) Officials have recently listed some strategic steps to end the pandemic. “We need strategic testing, intelligent sequencing, the right policies” to understand and track the variants, the official said, adding that “this is definitely not the time to give up on science”.

During a live QandA session, which was live-streamed on multiple social media channels, Maria Van Kerkhove of WHO said, “We are not out of the woods yet and this pandemic is not over. That’s why it’s really important that the systems that have been put in place for COVID-19, and built over years and decades in many countries, are, in fact, robust. ,

Here are 6 important things that can be followed to end COVID

  • We would like to see close monitoring for COVID-19. This doesn’t mean testing everyone everywhere. This means strategic testing and making sure we understand this virus, which is infected.
  • We want to make sure those systems are in sequence, so we have intelligent sequencing around the world to help us detect and track viruses.
  • We need to increase our supply for testing and personal protective equipment. We still have health workers around the world who don’t have enough protection
  • We need policies to support people to protect themselves. And we need people to know what their risk is every day, because the situation is very different in every country.
  • We need to find a balance between saving lives as well as reducing transmission.
  • The most important thing we need right now is to increase vaccination. And especially increasing for those who are most at risk. and it is fundamental in ending the emergency

There is no time to discard what we have created. The WHO official said that this is definitely not the time to give up on science.

Earlier this month, WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan during an interview with Bloomberg also indicated that COVID may end this year, saying, “At least we will overcome the health effects of coronavirus ” He further cautioned that in the post-COVID world, we certainly cannot live like 2019, but we have to be more cautious.
