Recent years have seen ‘Vegetarianism’ become a household concept rather than the niche idea that it started with. Many people are ready to give up meat, dairy, eggs and other animal-based products, either to do their bit for the environment or to lead a healthier lifestyle. However, what this wave of vegetarianism has previously done for many non-vegetarians is that you can now find vegetarian alternatives that look and taste like meat or eggs, but are completely safe to consume according to vegetarian guidelines. Huh. In efforts to make vegetarianism more widespread, many vegetarian influencers, chefs and food lovers have come up with their own versions of vegetarian non-vegetarian food, and the one that recently caught our eyes was this egg-free fried egg!

Yes, you read that right! In a recent video posted by Instagram channel @get.plant.ed, you can see how a plant-based fried egg is made with tofu, some corn starch, mustard sauce, ketchup and black salt. Is. The video has been viewed more than 89.4 thousand times and has many comments. The egg white is prepared by lightly roasting firm tofu, and the yolk is made by adding cornstarch, tapioca starch, mustard paste, ketchup, and black salt. While many appreciated how similar it looked to a scrambled egg, many others were not in favor of the invention at all. Reactions ranged from love to downright hate. One user commented ‘they look exactly like eggs’, while another said ‘I think it’s clever, I’ll give it a try.’

‘It doesn’t matter, I’m not a vegetarian, but I’m allergic to eggs and I’m looking for alternatives. It’s just insulting’ one comment read. The other says ‘I know everything should taste like chicken. But I don’t think it can ever taste like an egg.’
