There are many famous temples of Lord Ganesha but Khajrana Ganesh Temple in Indore, Madhya Pradesh has a special place in the hearts of the devotees. The idol of Khajrana Ganesh is self-manifested. People from all over the world come to this temple and pray to God to fulfill all their wishes.
The prestige of this temple can be gauged from the fact that everyone including film actors, sports stars and politicians reach the temple to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha. It is believed that if any devotee comes here with a wish, he does not go back disappointed. The belief is so strong that devotees from abroad also send their wishes for the fulfillment of Lord Ganesha.
This temple was built in 1735 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Holkar dynasty. The ancient ‘Siddhivinayak’ idol in the temple is said to have first appeared in the dream of a local priest, Mangal Bhatt. He gave this information in the Holkar court. On knowing this, Queen Ahilyabai ordered excavation at the place mentioned by the priest and found the idol of Ganesha in the form of Siddhivinayak. When people tried to shake the idol to install it, it did not move. Then the priest Mangal was called once again and when he touched the idol and tried to lift it, it shook easily. Knowing this, the queen handed over the entire responsibility of the temple to the Bhatt family.
Devotees who want their wish to be fulfilled by Lord Ganesha, express their wish in front of the idol and make an inverted ‘swastika’ on the back wall of the temple. When their wish is fulfilled, they come and make a proper ‘swastika’.
According to the temple priest, a couple had a child after 37 years with the blessings of Lord Siddhivinayak. Other celebrities including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Ekta Kapoor have visited the temple. Online facility is available for devotees living far and wide to get a glimpse of the idol. According to head priest Ashok Bhatt, the aarti of the idol reaches the devotees daily at 8:30 am and 8:00 pm through social media sites like YouTube and Facebook.
This online platform also helped during the Kovid lock down. People visiting Khajrana Ganesh Temple find 33 big and small temples in the premises which include Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva and other deities.
