Why is the removal of Pratap Singh Bajwa from the list of suspended MPs the end of his dream of Punjab?

While the opposition is creating a ruckus in Parliament over the suspension of 12 Trinamool Congress MPs, the Communist Party of India India The boycott of Pratap Singh Bajwa of the Congress and Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party is drawing attention to the ruckus in the monsoon session in August between the (CPI) and the Congress, among others.

Bajwa and Singh were seen throwing the rule book at the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on three agricultural laws, displaying unruly behavior and violation of the rules of the House, and therefore inviting action.

As soon as the Chairman released the list of 12 suspended MPs, many pointed out the reasons for the ouster of Bajwa and Singh. TMC’s Dola Sen told News18.com, “It was deliberately done in view of the elections. He should have also been suspended but he was released as the government did not want to upset anyone from Punjab.

Bajwa, in agreement with Sen, told News18.com, “I’m not sorry. I’ll do it again and I can. I know why they left me. It’s because they knew that if they didn’t give me any more.” Had AAP’s Sanjay Singh been suspended, we both would have become heroes in Punjab, which the BJP does not want. That’s why they let us go.”

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat, which rejects the MPs’ claims, has cited a technical reason behind the boycott. The incident between Bajwa and Singh took place on August 10, while the commotion by 12 MPs took place on August 11. Bajwa threw away the rule book after the proceedings were over, he was not caught on the CCTV of Rajya Sabha.

A top source in the Rajya Sabha secretariat said, “Bajwa and Singh’s misconduct took place on August 10. His name should have been on the same day or the next day. The events of 11 August were noted the next day on the first day of the winter session. Thus both escaped suspension.”

But the boycott is a missed opportunity for them, especially Bajwa who hopes to contest the upcoming elections in Punjab from Gurdaspur and could have used the suspension to his advantage. His suspension would have helped him become a hero in Punjab as there was a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha over three controversial agricultural laws. This would have been the pivot of his campaign in Punjab, which could have brought him political gains.

Meanwhile, for AAP, which is also fighting for Punjab, suspension of an MP over agricultural laws would have added gunpowder to her campaign. Those who have been suspended may not get any political mileage immediately, but the opposition still wants to use it to make a bigger point that the government swung institutions to target some.

Clearly, Bajwa and Singh feel alone, as their suspension would have helped them survive the battle for Punjab.
