Days after a DTC driver was shot dead by bike-borne assailants, police have arrested his wife, ex-wife and the latter’s daughter for allegedly hiring a sharpshooter and planning the murder.
The incident took place on July 7 when the police got a call that 45-year-old Sanjeev Kumar had been declared brought dead by doctors at a hospital. After the police reached the spot, the complainant Kumar’s wife Geeta alias Najma told the police that she was returning from the vegetable market with her husband and son when her husband was shot.
After further interrogation of Najma, who was avoiding questions, she said that her husband used to work in Kalkaji depot and some employees there had threatened to kill her. On checking her phone, the police found that Najma had removed a picture of the number plate of her husband’s motorcycle. He took the photo on July 5 and deleted it the same day, raising suspicion among the authorities.
During further investigation, Najma broke down and told the police that she was Kumar’s second wife. Kumar’s ex-wife Geeta along with her son and two daughters lived in a rented house in Dakshinpuri. She reveals that since Kumar was treating her badly, he planned to kill her and divide her property equally with Geeta’s help.
Geeta and Najma used to talk on the phone, which Najma used to hide in the neighbor’s house. Officials said Najma approached her cousin Iqbal to arrange for the sharpshooter and got in touch with Nayum, who settled a murder deal for Rs 15 lakh.
“She sent the picture of the number plate of (Najma) Kumar’s motorcycle to Nayum and later removed it. The sharpshooter was told that she would accompany the deceased to the vegetable market of Govindpuri at around 7 pm on July 7.
After this sharpshooters Nayum and Iqbal reached Govindpuri and kept an eye on the deceased. He took his place in an eatery near a petrol pump. The DCP said Kumar was later shot dead.
While Iqbal and Naeem are still on the run, Komal, the 21-year-old daughter of the ex-wife, has been arrested for her involvement in the murder, police said.
