Few days after the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar Bihar DGP SK Singhal on Saturday asked for strict action against policemen who violated prohibition at Patna Police Headquarters.

In a video of the oath, Singhal calls on the police force to follow the prohibition of alcohol and not consume alcohol, whether on duty or not.

The Nitish Kumar government had banned the manufacture, trade, storage, transport, sale and consumption of liquor in the state on 5 April 2016.

There have been many cases of action against policemen who drink alcohol. Departmental action has already been taken against 206 policemen, including two inspectors and 30 sub-inspectors, who failed to enforce prohibition in their respective areas.

An official said that on November 17, Nitish Kumar had presided over a high-level meeting with the officials on the issues related to prohibition in the state and asked them to take strict action against the policemen and the employees of the Excise Department who were themselves abiding by the prohibition. Recently, this meeting was called after 47 people died due to consumption of spurious liquor in the state.
