Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the government would continue its fight to make Kannada compulsory not only in primary and secondary schools, but also in degree level classes. Bommai said the government is also planning to make engineering courses available in Kannada. The CM said that at least 15 colleges have come forward to offer degree courses in Kannada. He is teaching in Kannada and giving degree in Kannada. The government has also introduced a new National Education Policy (NEP) which gives priority to the mother tongue. Emphasizing that any language grows when it is widely used, the CM said: “Everyone should speak Kannada and use it in daily life to promote one of the ancient languages in the world ” Bommai also sang a song from a Kannada film and danced to its tune.
