BJP leader Sinha claimed that the motion was based on false allegations against him, and was brought regardless of legislative rules
A day ahead of a special session of the Bihar Assembly called to prove the majority of the new government, Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha on Tuesday said he would not resign despite a no-confidence motion moved by the ruling Grand Alliance legislators. BJP leader Sinha claimed that the resolution was based on false allegations against him, and was brought regardless of legislative rules.
In the no-confidence motion, which seems to have given little regard to the rules (parliamentary rules), I have been accused of favoritism (partisanship) and dictatorial attitude (dictatorship). Both the allegations are clearly false. He told reporters that resigning under such circumstances would hurt my self-respect. While the Speaker did not comment further, when asked what would be his party’s stand on Wednesday, the numbers in the House clearly stood against the BJP.
I am currently assuming the office of the Speaker and will be bound by the norms attached to the constitutional post. Sinha said that my priority would be to discharge my duties as per the rules.
